The club meets regularly, with pool sessions usually on a weekly basis, and with trips on a significant number of weekends. Please see the list below to see a little more of what the club and it's members do;~
Trips ~ The club undertakes regular and varied trips including white water, placid water, surf and coastal paddles. They maybe located in and around South Wales, or further afield around Wales, the UK or even overseas. A programme outlineing the upcomming trips is available on this website or as part of the newsletter issued free to members.
Pool Sessions ~ For canoeing and swimming every Tuesday, 8.15 p.m. until 9.00 p.m at Splott Pool, Cardiff. Here members can practice and develop their skills as well as sort out details for week-end trips. New members are always welcome. Club kayaks & equipment are available (but must be shared with other members). If you have your own kayak, why not bring it along (but please make sure it is clean before the pool session). We organise tuition for beginners at the pool. Help and advice is always available if required from the more experienced members of the club. All pool fees are collected at the end of the session by a member of the committee.
Summer Lake Sessions ~ For beginners to get out of the pool and onto open water at Cosmeston Country Park, Penarth. This is run during the summer only and starts at 4.30 p.m. until dusk. Please note that Cosmeston lake is run by the local authority and has quite strict rules governing users of the lake. Please ensure that these are adhered to as we don't want to lose this valuable facility. These are;
- Not less than two canoeists on the lake at any time.
- Club membership cards to be shown to Wardens on request.
- No canoeing in the far lake ( under bridge ) - this is a nature reserve.
- Buoyancy aids must be worn
- An indemnity form must be signed by all lake users.
- No swimming, (other than capsizes / rescues / rolling etc.)
Newsletters ~ The club produces and distributes three newsletters each year. These give a calendar of all the club trips, and events taking place, as well as equipment for sale and general articles about club activities.
Provide pool bats and specialised equipment ~ Members are able to have free use of specialist equipment i.e. Canadian canoes / white water racers / surf ski / double topolino / sea kayak / slalom boat etc. The club does not provide general purpose canoes, as this is considered to be the minimum commitment for members. However, a healthy second-hand market has been established to help get new members afloat.
Social events ~ Barbecues, camping week-ends, trips abroad, parties etc.
Canoeing races ~ On the Rivers Taff ( these are part of the B.C.U. National White water racing calendar).
Lectures ~ From time to time lectures are given by well known canoeists.
