Star Awards
Greg Thomas
7- -0, 2005

The British Canoe Union (BCU) has set a series of standards for paddlers which it calls Star Awards. These run from 1* to 5*. They are not compulsory, but are a good idea, as they ensure a good grounding in not only paddling skills, but also things such as rescue techniques and working safely as a group.

If you want to do them, see the trips list for dates. Copies of the syllabus are available from Greg or Chris T at the pool. If you want to come along on a trip which includes star tests even though you are not doing them, you’re usually welcome, but there may be some sitting around – then again, it’s always fun watching other people getting wet, cold and confused!!!!

Extra Pool Sessions
Ian R
9- -0, 2004
There is a second pool session running during September, on Wednesday evenings from 9.15pm to 10.00pm.

It's aimed at adults and intermediates who want to do their own thing (i.e. we don't plan to do any coaching at these sessions).

If we want to keep these sessions going, we need to average at least a dozen people in the pool, so don't just think about it, turn up!
